Koroska Open in Slovenia: Stronger performance by the Tyrolean delegation

A 13-member delegation from Tyrol recently traveled to Slovenj Gradec in Slovenia to compete in the Koroska Open, a renowned international judo tournament for young athletes. With more than 830 participants from 19 different countries, the tournament was once again top-class and offered exciting competitions at the highest level.

INNSBRUCK/TYROL. In the demanding field of participants at the Koroska Open, all Tyrolean athletes presented themselves in strong form. Particularly noteworthy are the performances of Felix Einfinger and Sven Wolff, who attracted attention with their impressive fighting spirit and technical skills.

A medal for Tyrol

The young Sportborg student secured the only medal (bronze) for Tyrol Sven Wolff in the U16 class up to 50 kg. After a bye, Wolff started with an exciting second-round fight in which he defeated Azerbaijan’s Mammadli Mehdi Farhad in the Golden Score with a Waza-ari using Sangaku technique. In the pool final that followed, he impressed with a powerful Ippon by Ko-uchi against the Italian Sonzogni Giulian. In the semifinals he met the eventual tournament winner, the Czech Jakl Marek. In a nerve-wracking duel, Wolff came close to winning the Golden Score. In the bronze fight he found his way back to his old strength and secured third place with a confident hold against Horak Filip (CZE). With this performance, Wolff crowned his strong performance at the Koroska OpenVoll.

Impressive fighting qualities

Felix Einfinger competed in a strong weight class (U18, -73 kg) with 41 participants and impressively demonstrated his fighting qualities. After a narrow opening defeat in the Golden Score against the eventual third-place finisher, the Slovenian Mecilosek Fran, Einfinger started a determined comeback in the consolation round. There he first won against Lazar Milan (SVK), who was disqualified after an intense fight in the Golden Score with Hansokumake. Einfinger then dominated Poland’s Wiewiora Jakub with two clean Waza-ari scores. In the decisive battle for a place in the medal ranks, he finally had to admit defeat to Raffay Levente (HUN), who earned him a respectable 9th place and underlined his strong performance.

Valuable experiences

After the exciting days of competition, the Tyrolean young judoka completed an intensive two-day training camp, which offered them valuable opportunities to sharpen their techniques and gain international experience. Despite strong competition, the young athletes from Tyrol were excellently prepared and received important impulses for their further sporting development.
