Krefeld celebrates international match in Grotenburg

The fact that something big happened in Grotenburg on Saturday afternoon was already noticeable in the parking lot. Not a single centimeter of parking space was available, not a single seat remained free in the south stand. The German national football team won against Sweden 42:6 (21:0) in the Silk City and attracted a total of 3,016 spectators to the Grotenburg for the quarter-finals of the European Championship. Colorful costumes, lots of good humor and an outstanding atmosphere turn the German national team’s first international football match in a decade in front of a home crowd into an atmospheric party. Christoph Wittfeld, managing director of the Krefeld Ravens, who acted as co-organizer, sees it similarly: “The day was a complete success, it was a lot of fun. We celebrated a big football festival, the German American Football Association would be happy to come back if given the opportunity.” Wittfeld was also pleased that there were no arguments with over 3,000 spectators.
