The athletes participating in the Behobia – San Sebastián have received this morning the confirmation already announced by the organization: this year’s test will be 200 meters longer than in recent years due to the works that are being carried out in the Sales area. In total there will be 20,196 meters. Popular runners will have to take Letxunborro Avenue since the bridge on Elizatxo Avenue, in Ventas, has been demolished and the area is under construction. The race, at least in 2024 and 2025, will have to go down that avenue provisionally.
It will be at kilometer 4 when the athletes have to leave the usual route to deviate through the pavilion area. It is a descending area before reaching the Firefighters roundabout from where it begins to climb upwards looking for the Gaintzurizketa stop.
In total there will be 27,000, which will be the maximum number of registered participants that the Behobia-San Sebastián will have. CD Fortuna, organizer of the popular Gipuzkoan event, has been forced to reduce its participants by 3,000 due to the AVE works.
Behobia Changes – San Sebastián
This will not be the only change during this next edition of the race. The Behobia will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the departure of the chairs and handbikes, followed by the rollers at 9:35 a.m. and, finally, the departure of runners on foot starting at 9:55 a.m.
«Rail transport plays a fundamental role in the organization, since 50% of the participants use the train to go to the exit (Renfe and Euskotren). The service is provided with reinforcements and now there is no way to expand services due to the high-speed train works,” the organization explains. «Comfortable or safe transportation is not guaranteed. “That is why we limit the number of registered in 2024 to 27,000.”
