League: BeIN Sports has settled the first broadcast deadline but wants to renegotiate its contract

According to information from L’Équipe, BeIN Sports has settled with the national league the first broadcasting rights for one poster per day of Ligue 1 which the channel acquired this season. This was acquired for an annual amount of €98.5 million distributed as follows: €78.5 million in rights + €20 million in sponsorship until 2029.

According to the daily, the broadcaster paid a sum of €15.7 million which was quickly redistributed to the clubs. This first installment should have been paid in August; the second should have been in October. “BeIN continues to expect the most basic contractual terms to be provided by the clubs and LFP Media in relation to Ligue 1 rights, which any broadcaster in the world would require – and which is not linked to Qatar Tourism – before any payment becomes due,” the chain indicated in a press release to justify its delay.

The Qatari channel now also wants to renegotiate its contract with the LFP. In the latter, nothing suits BeIN Sports and at the same time as the amount paid, the channel notified it in writing to the league. The channel requests a revised and corrected treatment, considering that the quality of the matches sold initially (choice 1 or 2) is not assured. BeIN Sports lets the league know that DAZN is too favored.

BeIN Sports believes that the initial contract offered to acquire the rights for one match per week with a co-broadcast option, significant sponsorship rights and fair treatment vis-à-vis DAZN. For the Qatari channel, the account is not there. She is determined to sit around a table to discuss again.
