Let’s Play & Match will conquer Dutch neighborhoods with innovative grid installations

Table tennis tables, slides, swings or goals for a game of football are well-known in the Dutch street scene. That’s not even a badminton net! With the Let’s Play & Match project, which will be launched during the 75th edition of the Yonex Dutch Open badminton event, Badminton Nederland, SSNB, Techonomy and the BrabantSport Fund invest in progressive net installations for playing air badminton, foot volleyball, pickleball or tennis.

Let’s Play & Match responds to the growing need for flexible and casual sports as well as to social challenges such as encouraging exercise and social connection. With support from the BrabantSport Fund, Badminton Netherlands will make a free net installation and activation package available in ten municipalities in Brabant. The goal? Getting 10,000 Brabanders moving with various exercise activations set up by neighborhood sports coaches from SSNB, schools and sports clubs.

Digital motivation
Let’s Play & Match goes beyond installing net installations and playing games of badminton on schoolyards. Young and old should also be able to discover the possibilities and game forms of the net at other times. That is why the physical game facility is linked to a digital platform, developed by Techonomy, that motivates people to exercise and exercise together more often and for longer. Consider: exercises and challenges, a digital notice board to meet together and an activities calendar. This online world thus enhances gaming fun, sports participation and social interaction within neighborhoods.

Yonex Dutch Open
The Yonex Dutch Open (October 23 – 27), an international badminton event that takes place in the Maaspoort Den Bosch and attracts almost 4,000 visitors annually, kicks off Let’s Play & Match. At the initiative of Badminton Netherlands, supported by the BrabantSport Fund, SSNB and Techonomy, the Let’s Play & Match nets should conquer all of Brabant. Who knows, these badminton nets may become as permanent a part of the Dutch street scene in the coming years as table tennis tables, playgrounds and football fields…
