Liberation in the derby! VSV beats KAC in overtime

In a spectacular Carinthian derby on matchday 13 of the win2day ICE Hockey League, VSV beat KAC 3-2 after overtime.

The opening third offers some highlights, even though the first 20 minutes were still without any goals. The “Eagle” put pressure on Klagenfurt early on and found several good chances to score the opening goal, but it didn’t happen.

Above all, Scherbak, who has been disappointing so far this season and has been moved to the fourth line, is revitalizing Villach’s offensive game.

KAC punished Villach’s usury of opportunities, Rebernig was extremely strong

In the middle third, an old adage once again proves true for the VSV: “If you don’t do it at the front, you get it at the back.” Obersteiner hits a rebound after he initiates the chance himself (22nd).

But the VSV doesn’t let itself be disturbed by the goal and immediately presses for the equalizer. After a bit of a wait, the score is 1:1 – and it’s worth seeing. After a sharp pass into the slot, the disc flies into the air. Rebernig reacts outstandingly and hits the puck directly into the goal in baseball style (31st).

Emotions are running high

Because Schwinger received a penalty shortly before the end of the middle third, VSV started the final third on a power play. But Villach cannot capitalize on this.

As a result, the game becomes more and more intense and emotional, which results in a scuffle. Several players clash, which is followed by four time penalties – two per team.

Due to a mistake in substitution, the KAC found themselves outnumbered again five minutes before the end. Strong in penalty killing, the Klagenfurt team uses the mentality boost it provides. Only a few moments after the guests play with five players again, the lead falls again. Strong (57th) finishes half-high into the far corner.

Lindner decides the game in overtime

But the VSV answers perfectly. After preparatory work by Hancock, Hughes presents his routine and hits the target in front of the strong Dahm (58th).

So it goes into overtime, which ends after just under two minutes! Rauchwald’s shot becomes an assist for Lindner, who completes the rebound to win the 357th Carinthian derby (62′).

With this, the VSV is taking a first step out of the sporting crisis and can hand over the red lantern again. The KAC remains seventh.
