The two-time national champions Tigres del Licey announced the hiring of left-handed pitcher Jake Miednik as reinforcement for the continuation of the 2024-25 Dominican Republic Professional Baseball tournament, which is dedicated to the memory of José León Asensio.

Miednik is a five-foot-ten, 185-pound left-handed reliever who has minor league experience with the Cleveland Guardians and Seattle Mariners and overall has accumulated expertise over parts of seven seasons.

On September 2, he became the first pitcher in Gastonia Baseball Club history to throw a no-hitter or no-run game individually.

“We are hiring a pitcher with experience at different levels within this industry, whose competitive skills and versatility as a pitcher fit perfectly into our organization’s planning,” said Audo Vicente, VP of operations and general manager.

The 28-year-old pitcher comes from the Atlantic League where he had an outstanding summer with the aforementioned Independent League club. The veteran pitcher achieved a record of six wins and one loss with an ERA of 2.79 in 71 innings where he struck out 62 batters and posted a 1.16 WHIP.

The left-hander has an arsenal of four pitches: four-seam fastball (92.3 mph), curveball (79.6 mph), slider (83.3 mph) and changeup (86.1 mph), with his slider being the pitch with which he achieved the greatest blank swing rate (35% whiff) and the fastball is his most used pitch, representing 42% of his deliveries.

Miednik can also serve as a starter if necessary. He made eight starts this summer in the Atlantic League including one where he pitched a complete game. Historically, he has limited his opponents’ home runs in outstanding fashion, allowing just 0.8 per nine innings at all levels.
