A little less than a year after the death of a Nantes supporter on the sidelines of a match at La Beaujoire against Nice, on December 2, 2023, OGC Nice supporters are prohibited from traveling this Sunday to La Beaujoire for the match of the 8th day of Ligue 1 against Nantes, according to a decree published Friday in the Official Journal.
Citing “relations marked by animosity”, the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau judges in this decree that there is “a real and serious risk of confrontation between the supporters of the two clubs”, during this meeting scheduled for Sunday in 5 p.m. in Nantes.
Thus, according to the decree, on Sunday October 20 “from zero hour to midnight, the individual or collective movement, by any means, of any person claiming to be a supporter of the Olympique Gymnaste Club de Nice or behaving as such, is prohibited between the municipalities of the department of Alpes-Maritimes, on the one hand, and the municipality of Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), on the other hand.
Last December, a convoy of VTC transporting Nice supporters was attacked by Nantes supporters. The scuffles then degenerated, and a Nantes fan was fatally injured by one of the drivers. The driver is still in detention, despite the possibility of his release being raised last September.
