When inaugurating the Internal Universiadein which around 9 thousand students from the upper and upper secondary levels of the university participate. BUAPin 28 sports disciplinesthe rector María Lilia Cedillo Ramírez He assured that sport is a fundamental part of the comprehensive training of people; hence his interest and willingness to promote sports practice among the university community. “Sport teaches us discipline, solidarity, to respect the rules and to be committed,” he highlighted.
Likewise, the rector awarded the champions of the BUAP Universiade 2023: the faculties of Administration, Physical Culture and Engineering, in first, second and third place, respectively; and the Alfonso Calderón, October 2, 1968 and Lázaro Cárdenas del Río high schools, in first, second and third place.
In his speech, José Miguel López Serranoholder of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Cultureindicated that this year the incorporated schools join this sports event. “Welcome to the 32nd edition of the BUAP Universiade 2024. You are capable of obtaining first places in the different competitions, since through sport many goals are achieved and this is part of your comprehensive training, for which I appreciate the support of the rector Lilia Cedillo”, he expressed.
This university fair, to be held from November 4 to 30 at the University and High Performance Sports Complexin University Cityaims to select about 620 higher education athletes, who will represent the BUAP in the National Universiade 2025which will take place in Aguascalientesbetween next May and June. Also, around 200 high school athletes will be selected to begin their sports careers in order to improve their competitive skills.
Higher level students will participate in 28 disciplines: chess, athletics, basketball, 3×3 basketball, badminton, baseball, boxing, sport climbing, fencing, hurdles football, association football, aerobic gymnastics, handball, judo, karate do, kickboxing, weightlifting weights, rugby, archery, triathlon, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, taekwondo, university wrestling, paddle tennis, flag tochito, tennis and table tennis. While those in upper secondary school will do so in 10 disciplines: chess, athletics, basketball, 3×3 basketball, baseball, association football, handball, softball, beach volleyball and indoor volleyball.
After this internal selection, in which around 7 thousand high school students and 2 thousand high school students from the BUAP compete, the undergraduate and graduate athletes will continue with other qualifying rounds that will determine their participation in the National Universiade 2025: the state, regional and national stages of this sports festival for the country’s university students. For their part, high school students will continue in the upper secondary, intersubsystem and national education phases.
The opening ceremony took place at the BUAP Arenain University Citywhose civic event included a parade of participants, honors to the National Flagthe oath of judges and athletes, and the lighting of the symbolic fire by winning athletes in the National Sports Games of Higher Secondary Educationparanational CONADE y CONDDE.
At the inauguration there were also Jorge Avelino SolisGeneral Coordinator of Attention to University Students; Gabriela “La Bonita” Sánchez Saavedrasilver champion of World Boxing Council; y Gibran Zea Armentafencer from Puebla and participant in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
