The Mexican was not well placed on the grid and received a five-second penalty which he will have to carry out when he stops.

21:14

Verstappen will be attacked

When the race resumes, Max Verstappen will have a difficult restart to manage because he will offer aspiration to the whole pack behind him. You’ll have to be smart.

21:07

Five places gained by Perez

Sergio Perez is 13th. The Mexican gained five places in the first turns. The public is crazy.

21:06

Crash for Tsunoda and Albon, safety car!

Albon and Tsunoda collide before the first corner. The Japanese goes into the wall and his race is already over. After turn 3, Albon was also stopped. Race over too.

21:05

What a departure from Max Verstappen! The Dutchman jumped Sainz straight away and stayed on course through the first corner, showing authority over Sainz. Norris follows and Leclerc also. Behind, Tsunoda is outside.

Fernando Alonso’s 400e

At 43, Fernando Alonso is still in F1 and is taking part in his 400th Grand Prix in Mexico for his 397th start. As a reminder, Alonso was twice world champion with Renault in 2005 and 2006.

Gasly encore and Q3

After his seventh place in qualifying in Austin, Pierre Gasly did it again in Mexico with a new Q3 and the 8th time. This time, the Frenchman hopes to score points. In any case, the Alpine improvements brought to the United States seem to be working even if Esteban Ocon missed again with the 19th time. He will leave the pits later.

Perez and Piastri out in Q1

The disappointments keep coming for Sergio Perez. At home, he hoped to get back on track and instead, he plunged, having gone out in Q1 in front of his home crowd. He will start 18th shortly just behind Oscar Piastri. The McLaren driver was also missed even though he was the only one, before Mexico, with Verstappen to have participated in all Q3 since the start of the season.

20:27

Pole for Sainz ahead of Verstappen and Norris

We knew the Ferraris were in good shape but we didn’t imagine Sainz so strong. The Spaniard dominated qualifying on Saturday with the two best times and the pole, the sixth of his career. The Spaniard is ahead of Max Verstappen while Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc will be on the second row. Be careful though, pole doesn’t guarantee anything in Mexico because the start is followed by a long straight where the slipstream is diabolical until the first corner.

20:25

McLaren in the lead among manufacturers

On the other hand, McLaren has the power among the constructors at the moment with 544 points, 40 more than Red Bull. The Austrians are not helped by Sergio Perez this season in this ranking and see Ferrari return with 496 points following their double in Austin.

20:23

57 points ahead for Verstappen over Norris

With five races remaining, plus two sprints, Max Verstappen is in a strong position. The Batavian has not won since Spain at the start of the summer but has regained points from Lando Norris in Austin. Before this race, the three-time reigning world champion has a 57-point lead over Norris (354 against 297).
