Local sports badminton, 2nd Bundesliga BC Offenburg wins an important victory News from Ortenau

Last weekend the Offenburg badminton club had two groundbreaking games in the 2nd Bundesliga, one of which they won.

First the BCO met SV GutsMuths Jena, who are one place behind Offenburg in the table. Despite a strong team performance, they were narrowly defeated 3-4 in the end. This was followed on Sunday by a 5-2 win against HSG DHfK Leipzig.

Particularly noteworthy from the first game is the 100 percent rate of newcomer Niclas Kirchgessner, who won the second men’s doubles alongside long-standing regular player Andreas Müller and followed that up with a win in the mixed doubles alongside Lena Reder. The women’s doubles Lina Berger/Lena Reder bagged the third point. The special thing about all the games was that no international players faced each other. Both squads are characterized by homegrown and regional players. That didn’t affect the level. Johannes and Philipp Discher were close to winning the high-class men’s singles.

In the second game against newly promoted and bottom-placed Leipzig, the BCO showed a better side. The Offenburgers went into the game focused, which was reflected in a clear victory in the first men’s doubles. Doubles and mixed specialist Jonas Burger, together with his partner Philipp Discher, literally overwhelmed the opposing players. However, the course of the women’s doubles, which runs parallel, is completely different. Lena Reder and Lina Berger failed to keep the points at home after winning the first set.

From then on, however, the BCO triumph began. Andreas Müller and the Offenburg captain Lukas Burger won the thriller in the second men’s doubles against old acquaintance from Baden-Württemberg, Michel Koucky. He started his badminton career in Tübingen and moved to Leipzig to study. The mixed Lina Berger/Jonas Burger also delivered a very impressive performance and made a decisive contribution to the overall success. Philipp Discher ran down his opponent Wilhelm Büchner, so that in the end it was 5:2 for the BCO.

The two games once again made it clear how close the competition is in the 2nd Bundesliga. The BCO continues on November 24th against BV Maintal in the Nord-West-Halle.
