Lorca judo pays tribute to master Serafín Piñeiro

After almost a decade of absence from the agenda of the Guadalentín Sports Games, judo returned to be present on the program of the Lorca Olympics on Wednesday afternoon. And he did it for a more than special reason: to pay a sincere and well-deserved posthumous tribute to Serafín Piñeiro Martínez, athlete and teacher who pioneered the practice and teaching of judo in our municipality.

The Felipe VI Sports Complex hosted the day organized by the Association of Friends of Judo of Lorca which, in the form of an exhibition, began at 7:30 p.m. Firstly, the Lorca judokas of all ages, almost fifty, demonstrated their level through the exhibition; exercises, movements and katas were part of this master class in the form of an exhibition with which teachers and initiates shared tatami.

But the objective of this day was to honor Serafín Piñeiro. For this reason, at the end of the exhibition the Friends of Judo wanted to remember the athlete, judoka, sportsman, historic secondary school teacher at IES Ros Giner and teacher, precursor and disseminator of Judo in the municipality, Serafín Piñeiro Martínez, who disappeared in 2016 at an early age. age 66 years. The Association gave his widow, Mari Carmen Gallardo, and his four grandchildren a plaque highlighting the merits of the teacher, as well as a commemorative poster of this exhibition that allowed him to vindicate his figure from the sport that he practiced so much, bringing together for this to friends who will always remember the unforgettable Seraphim.
