Maja Stark Takes Command: Exploring Her Solo Leadership on the LPGA Tour

Maja Stark is in good shape before the end of the season on the LPGA tour.

After two rounds of the Maybank Championship in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, the Swedish golf star is at the top of the leaderboard.

On Thursday, the 24-year-old shot 66, six under par, after both starting well with five birdies on the first six holes, and then an eagle on the 18th hole.

And even during the second round of the competition, the Swede played steadily from start to finish. Stark didn’t make any major mistakes, setting himself up for several birdie chances. And she also took care of many of them.

“Trust my swing a little more”

Another round of 66 with three birdies in the first six holes, and then four in a row between the tenth and 13th holes saw Maja Stark climb all the way up into the sole lead with a total score of -12.

– There are a lot of short iron shots to the green this week, and I’ve just tried to trust my swing a little more than I did before. Then I’ve been lucky enough to find the right reading of the putt as well, so it’s nice, she says in Viaplay.

“Happy with that decision”

Should Stark capture her first win on the LPGA Tour this season, and second ever, she will likely climb into the top ten in the overall points standings with just under a month to go until the playoffs. Before this week’s competition, Stark is in 21st place.

Just a few minutes after Stark crossed the finish line, the race was interrupted when a severe storm moved in over the race. Some balls thus have one or two holes left to play.

– We saw the clouds surrounding us, so we really ran through the last hole. And with hindsight, you can say that I am satisfied with that decision, says Stark.

The Scanian leads one stroke ahead of Marina Alex, USA, and Narin An, South Korea.
