Two years after the final of the Afrobasket 200 in Dkar, Mali meets Senegal again in the final after beating Angola (70-60) in the semi-final of the 21st African Women’s Championship 2009 at the Palais des Sports Mahamasina from Antananarivo. Mali took the advantage from the start of the match (15-12), before reaching half-time, still leading the score (29-24).
In the third quarter, the African champions tried to widen the gap again, but not for long. Returning to the match, despite his 4 faults, Narssecela Mauricio scored valuable points which allowed Angola to take the lead. Hamchetou Maiga and his comrades found the necessary resources to achieve parity (57-57) at the end of the fourth quarter. And during overtime, they flew into the final with a 10-point difference (70-60). Thus taking the opportunity to compete for the second consecutive time after the continental coronation in 2007 in Dakar, the final of the women’s Afrobasket with Senegal.
