MANAGUA – NICARAGUA / This Saturday the Managua Mayor’s Office (ALMA) inaugurated the Children’s Judo Championship, in the San Judas market, as part of the Managua 2024 Youth Games.
This event seeks to promote sport in new generations, encouraging the participation of children and adolescents in the martial art of judo, a discipline that has gained popularity in Nicaragua and that can be practiced for free by athletes from the age of six.
He Vice Mayor of Managua, Enrique Armaswas in charge of opening the tournament, highlighting the importance of this type of activities.

“Today we are inaugurating the Judo Tournament of the Youth Games. This is a massive activity, in which children and adolescents are participating, not only from Managua, but also from Sandino City, Villa Sandinothe area of happy and other academies. This event has the support of the Government of Commander Daniel and the Comrade Rosario Murilloin addition to the enormous support of the parents,” said Armas.
The championship was attended by more than 120 judokas between the ages of 6 to 14 years, who competed in various categories.
The young athlete Abigail Suárezwho has practiced judo since she was little, expressed her enthusiasm for this sport.

“For me, this sport is my passion. Since I was little I have loved martial arts. One day I went to an event and seeing how the athletes developed, I loved it. I signed up and today I am an athlete, I have participated in many events and I grow more every day, thanks to our President for the support he gives to all sports,” Suárez shared.
Los Managua Youth Games 2024 encompass 20 sports disciplines and have become a hotbed of new talent. The meetings take place in different venues and will culminate in December with a closing ceremony.
For those who want to practice judo, the Managua Mayor’s Office offers free classes at two academies: St. Jude Market Academywith training on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and the Multipurpose Academy in District VIwhich teaches classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
