Marquez’s motorbike is claimed to have experienced a downgrade after the Mandalika MotoGP incident

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Motor Marc MarquezGP23, reportedly experienced a downgrade after the incident at the 2024 Mandalika MotoGP at the Mandalika Circuit, at the end of last September.

During the race in Mandalika, Marquez’s motorbike emitted smoke before catching fire after being sprayed by the marshal with a light fire extinguisher.

Quoted from The Race, after this incident, Marquez’s Desmosedici GP23 was said to have experienced several component reductions.

Since the start of the season, GP23 and GP24, which are the newest releases this season, have had clear gaps. That was due to the introduction of Michelin’s new specification on the rear tire which didn’t work as well on the old Ducati machine.

Even so, Ducati provides other components on the GP23 so that it is not too ‘left behind’ by the GP24. The provision of components was successful after seeing Marquez win in the Aragon and San Marino MotoGPs.

However, according to The Race’s source in the paddock, Ducati has withdrawn this component again after the engine failure experienced by Marc Marquez in the 2024 Mandalika MotoGP.

The reduction in components is due to the engine stalling caused by the engine turning too fast due to the increased wheel rotation.

In the report, it was stated that the main component that Ducati removed from the GP23 was the external flywheel. This component is used to smooth out fluctuations in crankshaft speed by changing the weight of the component.

That change in weight controls how much the crank can turn. This flywheel will help grip when entering corners and has the potential to cause excessive engine rotation.

Marc Marquez acknowledged this engine change. With this change, Marquez and other GP23 racers such as Alex Marquez, Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi will have to work harder for the remainder of this season.

“We made several changes that really affected my riding style. But since then we have tried to adapt,” said Marquez.

“There’s no point in continuing to think about change. You just need to adapt to what you have,” Marquez added.
