It was the year 1959 when inside the Lecco rowers the first Lecco section dedicated to judo was born. Apparently rough, but extremely technical martial art that continues to gain traction in Italy despite the little publicity that precedes and follows the Olympics. In 1963 the manager Mario Bialettia black belt from Pavia according to Dan who after four years under the umbrella of the city’s historical society organizes theGhislanzoni Gymnastics Union in via Ongania, and then moved (1968) to nearby via Legnano under the guidance of a new group of managers. In parallel inside the Oratory of Castello the same Bialetti he founded the judo section, which in 1970 found a home in via Previati Judo Club Lecco and then become Kodokan Lecco (1973) under the direction of manager Enrico Corti. The other story, however, has cut the 50th year of activity in 2021: from UGG to Judo Club Samurai Lecco of via alle Villette, 10 with the foundation in 1971 and the move from via Legnano carried out in 1971 by will of Athos Airoldi, Tiziano Crippa, Giovanni Riva, Felice Ciceri, Luigi Portaluppi, Luigi Cogliardi e Gian Battista Gatti. All under the guidance of the tireless maestro Gerolamo Pirolasupported by athletes of great ability, such as the black belt In Antonio Piper who we met during our visit during an evening of training, who over time have in turn become teachers and guides for the younger ones: on 30 April 1978 it was the 14 year old In Piper to wear the black belt, thus opening the first, great year for the association; after him they also reach the coveted finish line Renato Lesma and the late Antonio Invernizzi. A story of excellence, that of Judo Club Samurai Leccocollected in a book written on the occasion of the 50th year of activity: from here we learn that there were 1,016 competitions in which the association took part, which brought 5 Fijlkam competitions to Lecco and over time – among other things – he also organized 8 judo camps in Barzio. The Lecco club also has sections in Canzo and Ace, Merone, Villa San Carlo inside the Gso premises, Ballabio with the Asc ea Malgrate.
The Meritorious Master Gerolamo Pirola
«We have around twenty kids from 2010 to 2016 on whom we are focusing through new work programs and dictating spaces for weekly training – the teacher explains to us Pirola from Valgreghentino, who from 1968 to today has become a Meritorious Master and won the Sixth Dan Judo -. There is a lot of work at the management level: we have to divide the various outings between Expedients, Cadets, Juniors and Seniors, sometimes we are busy on different fronts at the same time.” There is no shortage of prominent and national athletes for the association affiliated with Fijlkam and Fekda. Martina Mariani she is the standard bearer: born in 2000, 9th in the national ranking list, she won the silver medal at the last national university championships and is 7th in the Italian Championships. Going down ten years you find Irene Arientiyear 2010 of the Beginners B category which the Italians won in Olbia in the summer just passed for -57kg.
