Yesterday the news broke that Kylian Mbappé is suspected of rape in Stockholm. The French star player was in the Swedish capital while the French team played in the Nations League.
“It’s really a big deal in France,” reports correspondent Frank Renout. “Yesterday the TV news opened with it. The news was in the sports newspaper L’Equipe, but also in the quality newspaper Le Monde.”
“Not that strange,” Renout explains. “Kylian Mbappé is a bit of a god in France. He is held in high regard and he is someone who has little or no scandals.”
“That’s why this hits home for the French.”
Mbappé remains a top footballer and everything is under a magnifying glass.

Kylian Mbappé is suspected at a low level. There is no official proof yet and he denies it himself.
“Police and justice in Sweden do not mention his name,” explains Frank Renout. “The investigation is ongoing and legally Mbappe is innocent until proven guilty.”
Is his reputation in France crumbling? “It’s a scratch on his image,” the correspondent answers. “Mbappé remains a top footballer and everything is under a magnifying glass.”
