Michoacán is Crowned with 35 Medals in the National Judo Tournament Professor Daniel F. Hernández | mizitacuaro.com

Morelia, Michoacán, October 20, 2024. In an unprecedented event, Michoacán stood out in the Professor Daniel F. Hernández 2024 National Judo Tournament, obtaining a total of 35 medals. Of these, 19 were won by girls, boys and young people in residential care of the DIF Michoacán System, who demonstrated their skill and dedication in the competition that brought together more than 700 judokas from all over the country.

The capital of Michoacán hosted this important national tournament for the first time, and during the closing ceremony, the honorary president of the Board of Trustees of the DIF Michoacán System, Grisel Tello Pimentel, expressed her gratitude to the president of the Mexican Judo Federation, Lilian Estrada Bautista, for the trust placed in holding the event in Michoacán. Furthermore, he excitedly announced that the state will once again host the tournament in the coming year.

“I congratulate all the athletes and their families for their participation. Each of you is a winner. We feel honored to have received you in Michoacán and we hope you return home safely. We hope to see you again soon,” said Tello Pimentel.

The general director of the DIF Michoacán System, Óscar Celis Silva, together with the Michoacan sports director, Raúl Morón Vidal, recalled that the tournament began on October 17 with the weighing of the competitors and that the competitions began on October 18. More than 700 athletes from 28 associations throughout Mexico participated, including 32 boys, girls and adolescents in residential care.

On the last day of competitions, Michoacans Elizabeth García Malfavón and Emil Montes de Oca shone by winning gold medals in the 70 and 66 kilogram categories, respectively, within the Senior category.

The tournament, organized by the DIF Michoacán System, the State Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (Cecufid), and the specialized federations and associations, included competitions in the Under-13, Under-15, Under-18, Under-21 and Senior, all of them qualify for the national ranking.
