Mikaela Shiffrin’s Second Run Struggles: Analyzing Her Alpine Performance and Podium Miss

Veteran Federica Brignone, 34, won and there was great Italian cheering in the goal area.

– It is absolutely incredible. I didn’t expect that and will work hard to improve for the rest of the season, says Brignone, who celebrated with a “chicken dance” on Viaplay’s broadcast. Brignone was very unsure before the start and didn’t know where she stood at all.

After a good start, Shiffrin was far too passive on the slope and was only 27th in the second run. Waiting in the goal net was boyfriend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who announced this week that he is out of the game for the entire upcoming season.

– There are small margins. In the first race she shows that she is the best in the world, while in the second race she is a little cautious and rode too much on safety on the slope. Then time passes quickly in conditions like this, Kilde analyzes the ride according to NRK.

“Don’t believe in yourself”

Sara Hector had the same problem as in the first run where she was eighth and lost a lot in the long steep. It was a final 15th place for the reigning Olympic champion.

– I had the wrong attitude and you can’t ride well when you don’t believe in yourself. It sucks. When you compete, you want to be fast, but sometimes that happens in sports, says a very disappointed Hector, who aims to find joy and will now practice some slalom.

Estelle Alphand picked up World Cup points after finishing 23rd. She was 25th after the first run and pushed hard with her nice starting number six but was flying off the course a couple of times at the top and had to pay for it.

To the results.
