Kompany compares <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/01/fc-bayern-vs-cologne-lewandowski-applies-to-be-the-world-linesman-sport/" title="FC Bayern vs. Cologne: Lewandowski applies to be the world linesman – sport”>Musiala to Zinédine Zidane and Ronaldinho

As spectacular as the number of his goals against Mainz were, the goals themselves were just as unspectacular. After just two minutes, Musiala gave FC Bayern the lead with a shot from close range. In the final phase of the first half there was a header from an offside position (there is no VAR in the second round of the DFB Cup) and a goal. Goals like those usually scored by striker Harry Kane or space interpreter Thomas Müller – but not by the magician Musiala.

He himself was probably particularly happy about this category of hits, as they had been the focus of training recently. “Jamal has decided that he will score significantly more goals in the box that don’t require dribbling beforehand,” revealed Müller. “We trained this in the summer. It’s nice that it’s paying off and being confirmed with a sense of success. He wants to go to these rooms more often.”

After eleven competitive games, Musiala already has seven goals and on average he scores every 100 minutes. This is a significant increase compared to previous years. In his four seasons as a professional for FC Bayern, he needed 209, 248, 189 minutes per goal and last season 238 minutes.

Coach Vincent Kompany sees this actually positive development as a danger. “I don’t want us to measure his achievements and qualities only by goals. That’s a problem of modern times,” said Kompany. “There is now this focus on goals, goals, goals because of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.” As is well known, the two most influential players of the recent past regularly outdo each other with new goal records.

“But what about Zinédine Zidane in the past or Ronaldinho or so many great players who shaped the game even without scoring goals?” Kompany asked. “Jamal can become one of those players even if he doesn’t score 1,000 goals.”
