NBA, Mitchell Robinson will return in January

Updates arrive at the Knicks on the injury front. Mitchell Robinsonwho has had ankle surgery twice in the last year, will try to return to the field in January. According to what was reported by Shams Charania, an insider for ESPN, the New York center will miss the first two months of the regular season to dedicate himself entirely to recovery. The medical staff chose a cautious approach to allow Robinson to take the time necessary to avoid risking his problems worsening.

Due to ankle injuries, Robinson played alone 31 games last season. He underwent surgery last December, only to get hurt again in the first round of the Playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. His absence in the Conference semifinals weighed heavily on the performance of the Knicks, who had to surrender to the Pacers after six games. In recent years, Mitchell Robinson has proven to be a key player for the Knicks. In attack he is certainly limited, but his great ones defensive and rebounding skills make him a player that Tom Thibodeau trusts a lot.

This offseason the Knicks decided to completely revolutionize the long department. First came the farewell of Isaiah Hartenstein (who signed a three-year contract worth 87 million with the Thunder), and then a few weeks ago the trade that shocked the NBA. Karl-Anthony Towns will wear the New York shirt next season, and will certainly be the starting center, at least until Robinson returns. Then Towns could play as a power forward, with Robinson as a five in the starting five. Jericho Sims will also be on the Knicks roster, who especially in these first months of the regular season is called upon to not make Robinson’s absence felt too much.
