NBA News: Clippers sued over Kawhi’s injuries
Former LA Clippers fitness coach Randy Shelton is suing the organization over its handling of Kawhi Leonard‘s injuries. Shelton already worked with Leonard in college and came to the LA Clippers alongside Leonard in the summer of 2019. Shelton alleges that the Clippers ignored rehabilitation recommendations following Leonard’s torn ACL in 2021, causing further complications.
Leonard missed the entire 2021-22 season because of the injury before suffering a torn meniscus in the same knee in 2023. Leonard is currently missing from the Clippers indefinitely due to inflammation in his right knee.
Shelton further argues that the Clippers hired him in the years before Leonard was signed to obtain medical information about Leonard’s health. The Clippers also hoped that by working with Shelton, they would be able to lure Leonard to LA based on existing relationships. According to Shelton, this was a violation of the NBA’s “tampering guidelines.”
The Clippers deny the charges. Shelton was released by the Clippers in 2023 without explanation.
