NBA professional Daniel Theis wants to continue playing for the German national basketball team in the future. “It’s not up to me to stop now,” said Theis (32) in an interview with the online portal basketball-world.news. “Maybe that would have crossed my mind if we had won gold or silver at the Olympics, but not after such a bitter end,” said the center, who is starting his eighth NBA season with the New Orleans Pelicans this week.

Germany only came fourth at the Olympic Games in Paris in the summer and missed out on the medal they were aiming for. A year earlier, Theis had sensationally won the World Cup with Germany in the Philippine capital Manila.

New goal: EM 2025

“I have already spoken to coach Alex Mumbru and told him that I would like to be there next summer,” said Theis. World champion coach Gordon Herbert left the German Basketball Association after the Olympics and is now coach of FC Bayern Munich. His successor is the Spaniard Mumbru.

The new coach is expected to lead the team to a successful European Championship, which will take place in Latvia, Finland, Poland and Cyprus in late summer 2025.
