It has long been known that Thomas Tuchel is moving to England. The new national football coach is now looking forward to living on the island again and hopes to end England’s title drought.

England’s new national football coach Thomas Tuchel is looking forward to moving back to the island for his new job. “I love living in England,” said Tuchel, who was introduced as coach of the Three Lions on Wednesday. “I want to be close to the Premier League and to most of the players.” He had already lived in London during his time as coach of Chelsea FC.

Great Britain is very important to him. “It’s the country, it’s the humor, it’s the way of life and the attitude,” said the 51-year-old, who will start his new job on January 1st. It had been known for some time that Tuchel wanted to return to England after leaving FC Bayern. “I’ve always felt very welcome here. And that’s why I’m very happy to be here again.”

Clear goal: World Cup title in 2026

In his new office, Tuchel has set himself an ambitious goal. He wants to win the 2026 World Cup with England, which will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico. It would be the Three Lions’ first title in 60 years. “We say clearly what we want to achieve. We are absolutely open about it,” said the former Bayern coach. “But it doesn’t help if we talk about it because we also have to deliver.”

Tuchel promised offensive and physical football, “because that is typical of English football.” At the same time, he also has to deliver results. According to the new coach, the fact that England have not been able to win a tournament in their own country since winning the World Cup in 1966 is a bit of bad luck. “It’s just nuances, just details when you lose on penalties or lose in the final,” he said. “How could I presume to say: You did something wrong.”
