In addition to them, Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, is also one of the surprises among the absences, as he won the 2023 edition.

The award has been awarded since 1992 by the African Football Federation (CAF), which announced the nominees this Thursday. Three names in particular start ahead of the competitors, they are: Ademola Lookman (Atalanta striker), Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund striker) and Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen defender).

The African player of the year will be announced on the evening of December 16th, at an event promoted by CAF, in the city of Marrakech, Morocco.
