New Faces of African Football: Surprising Finalists for Best African Player Without Salah, Osimhen, and Mané

Medallions Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané, who tend to be among the highlights of the football world in recent years, are left out of the nominees for the best African of 2024. In addition to them, Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, is also one of the surprises among the absences, as he won the 2023 edition.

The award has been awarded since 1992 by the African Football Federation (CAF), which announced the nominees this Thursday. Three names in particular start ahead of the competitors, they are: Ademola Lookman (Atalanta striker), Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund striker) and Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen defender).

  • Achraf Hakimi (Marrocos/Paris Saint-Germain)
  • Soufiane Rahimi (Marrocos/Al Ain)
  • Ademola Lookman (Nigeria/Atalanta)
  • William Troost Ekong (Nigeria/Al Kholood)
  • Ronwen Williams (South Africa/Mamelodi Sundowns)

The African player of the year will be announced on the evening of December 16th, at an event promoted by CAF, in the city of Marrakech, Morocco.
