New York Jets @ Pittsburgh Steelers: Russell Wilson shines, Davante Adams disappoints

Russell Wilson puts in a strong performance in his first outing as a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Completely different is Aaron Rodgers, who disappoints once again – also with his friend Davante Adams.

Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson made a big impression in his first NFL appearance as a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 35-year-old led the Steelers to a surprisingly clear 37:15 home win against the New York Jets in the Sunday Night Game in Week 7.

Wilson, who took over the job as starting quarterback from Justin Fields during the week, completed 16 of his 29 pass attempts for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran into the end zone himself once.

A big beneficiary of the quarterback swap was wide receiver George Pickens, who caught five balls for 111 yards and recorded his first touchdown of the season. Pickens quickly emerged as Wilson’s preferred stop. Running back Najee Harris also played big, recording 102 rushing yards and a run into the end zone.

The Jets, on the other hand, didn’t see much of the old magic of the duo Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. In his first appearance for the Jets after being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders, Adams was thrown at nine times, more than Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. However, only three balls arrived, with Adams collecting 30 yards.

Once again there were costly mistakes that made life difficult for the Jets. Rodgers threw two interceptions, including one just before halftime when the score was 15-6, which the Steelers converted into a touchdown on the final drive of the first half. Instead of extending the lead and deciding the game, the Jets brought their opponent back into the game.

It was the beginning of the end for the Jets, who didn’t score a single point in the second half. Also because kicker Greg Zuerlein was later unable to convert a field goal.

Offensive lineman Xavier Newman from the Jets provided a shocking moment. After a seemingly normal-looking hit, he collapsed and was taken to hospital with a neck injury. However, he is said to have felt sensation in his extremities.

The Jets suffered their fourth straight loss in Pittsburgh, falling to a record of 2-5. For the Steelers, however, the world looks completely different, the team from Pennsylvania is 5-2 and is at the top of the AFC North at least until the Baltimore Ravens appear in the Monday Night Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Steelers continue their next New York duel next Monday (local time), with Pittsburgh then hosting the New York Giants. The Jets, in turn, have to play against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
