New York loses Game 1 of WNBA Finals to Minnesota down to the wire

In a suspenseful end to the match, taken to overtime, the New York Liberty lost Thursday in the first game of the WNBA final, which takes place in the best of five matches, against the Minnesota Lynx (93-95 , ap).

New York, thanks to Jonquel Jones (24 points), Sabrina Ionescu (19 points) and Breanna Stewart (18 points), led the entire match, before becoming the first team to lose despite an 18-point lead in the history of the WNBA Finals.

The Liberty still had a margin of 11 points at 3’23” from the end, but did not score again until obtaining two free throws at the last second: Stewart only made one of the two (84- 84), to send the two teams into overtime. “The beautiful thing is that we have another match on Sunday, and we will be ready”she declared after a personal performance of 6 out of 21 in shooting.
