It was a return to Louisiana for Sean Payton, who led the Saints from 2006-2021.

Bo Nix had 164 passing yards and 75 rushing yards for the Broncos (4-3).

Denver had the upper hand 389-271 in terms of yards.

It was a fifth loss in a row for the Saints (2-5).

With Derek Carr missing a second straight game (oblique), Spencer Rattler was once again the Saints’ starting quarterback.

He had 172 passing yards, but one of his two fumbles was returned 52 yards for a touchdown, by Cody Barton.

Rattler was also the victim of six sacks, including one by Nik Bottino, author of a sack in a fifth straight game.

The Saints were without wide receivers Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (knee).

They were also without tight end Taysom Hill (ribs), for a third straight game.

Former Saints player, Wil Lutz made four placements.

At the half, former star quarterback Drew Brees was honored for his induction into the Saints Hall of Fame.

His career was also highlighted at a dinner, where Payton congratulated the man who was his quarterback for 14 seasons.

Brees concluded his career with 80,358 air yards. He is second only to Tom Brady at this level, with 89,214.

Brees led the Saints to a Super Bowl victory in February 2010.
