NFL: Chiefs acquire receiver DeAndre Hopkins

With the losses of receivers Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown and Juju Smith-Schuster, the Kansas City Chiefs found their man to bring some reinforcement offensively.

The team is close to reaching a deal with the Tennessee Titans to acquire wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport learned early Wednesday morning.

The Chiefs would give up a fifth-round pick that can become a fourth-round pick in return.

With the current injuries, the team’s 2024 first-round pick Xavier Worthy is the starting receiver and he is supported notably by Justin Watson as well as tight ends Travis Kelce and Noah Gray.

Hopkins would therefore be in his fourth training in the NFL and his time in Tennessee will have only lasted 23 games.

This season, the 32-year-old receiver has caught 15 balls in six games for 173 yards and added a touchdown.

In 11 seasons in the NFL before this year, Hopkins had seven campaigns with more than 1,000 passing yards. He totaled 12,528 yards and 79 touchdowns in the NFL.

He began his career in the uniform of the Houston Texans and he also defended the colors of the Arizona Cardinals.

Rice suffered a knee injury in Week 4 that required surgery. A sternoclavicular injury has kept Brown out this season, while Smith-Schuster aggravated a hamstring injury last Sunday.

The Chiefs are the only team still undefeated this season, with a perfect record of six wins in as many games.
