NFL: Despite injuries, Aaron Rodgers will be able to face the Patriots

New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is out with a hamstring injury, in addition to an ankle and knee injury, but is expected to be at his post Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said Wednesday that the 40-year-old quarterback will be limited in the team’s drills between now and the game.

“It’s something new that happened last game,” Ulbrich said of the hamstring injury. So we’ll be monitoring that this week, but he’ll continue to work hard like he always does. Don’t expect him to miss the meeting.”

Rodgers, who has admitted in recent weeks to being “in terrible shape,” grabbed the back of his left leg after a play in Sunday night’s loss to the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Ulbrich mentioned that his injuries “might” have limited Rodgers’ ability to come out of the protective cover against the Steelers.

“It happened a few times, when we expected him to run away and use his mobility,” Ulbrich said. In the past, he’s been one of the most mobile quarterbacks in this league, so it’s certain (that it’s affected him).”

Rodgers, who tore his Achilles tendon on the fourth play of his first game with the Jets last year, is off to one of the worst statistical starts in his illustrious 20-year career in the Jets. NFL. He threw 10 touchdown passes and seven interceptions, six short of his career high set in 2008, when he was in his first campaign as the Green Bay Packers’ No. 1 quarterback.
