Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco will lead the Indianapolis Colts offense on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, according to several media reports.
Flacco will take over for second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson in Week 9 of the regular season.
Sources requested anonymity to speak with The Associated Press on Tuesday because the team has not yet confirmed the information.
The Colts, who are 4-4, are coming off a 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, a game in which Richardson struggled mightily. The 22-year-old, who was selected fourth overall by the Colts in 2023, completed just ten of his 35 pass attempts for 175 yards. He caught one pass for a touchdown and was intercepted once.
Head coach Shane Steichen said Monday he would “think” about Richardson’s status — the first indication a move was possible.
This season, Richardson has thrown for 985 yards with four touchdowns and seven interceptions in six games, posting a 3-3 record.
Flacco, 39, played in four games this season with the Colts, totaling 716 yards along with seven touchdowns and an interception.
