NFL: the Steelers plan to hand over the reins of their offense to Russell Wilson

The Pittsburgh Steelers plan to hand over the reins of their offense to Russell Wilson, tipster Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.

Everything indicates that Wilson will make his first start of the season on Sunday evening against the New York Jets.

Wilson was sidelined for most of the season with a calf injury. For the first time last week, he served as Justin Fields’ deputy.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Wilson and Fields will practice this week, without going into further detail.

Fields started the first six games of the season, leading the Steelers to a 4-2 record. The aerial attack, however, has lacked consistency, with Fields collecting fewer than 150 yards through the air and completing fewer than 60 percent of his pass attempts over the past two weeks.

Fields especially stood out with his cleats, scoring two rushing touchdowns against the Las Vegas Raiders last Sunday.
