For the latter, the rumors became reality late Tuesday evening when he acquired defenseman Olli Määttä from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a third-round pick in 2025. This selection originally belonged to the New York Rangers .

Määttä, who has been shut out in seven games in Detroit since the start of the season, will make up for the long-term losses of guards Sean Durzi and John Marino who both went under the knife in the final days. In 72 games last season, he scored 18 points.

Aged 30, Määttä was a first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2012 auction. During his career, he also played for the Chicago Blackhawks as well as the Los Angeles Kings.
