The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced an impressive extension of their collaboration with global partner Nike. The renegotiated agreement is expected to run until 2037 and includes the provision of uniforms, merchandise, marketing and content to the leagues. This agreement, which also includes the G-League development league, was signed just in time for the start of the 79th NBA season and just one day after the New York Liberty’s triumph in the WNBA Championship. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver highlighted Nike’s long-standing association with basketball and highlighted the company’s role in the sport’s growth and innovation. The expanded focus on youth basketball is intended to create new space for emerging talent and enable deeper interaction with fans of all ages. Nike also extended its licensing agreement as an official partner of the NBA’s players’ union, the National Basketball Players Association.
