From October 26 to November 2, the first world boxing championship in the U19 age group will take place in Colorado (USA), where the Daugavpils sports school boxers will represent the Latvian national team. Under the guidance of coach Ritvar Šulga, three citizens of Daugavpils went to the ring: Nikita Prokhovskis, Nikolajs Zamyatins and Emmanuel Sidorenko. More than 180 boxers from 30 countries are participating in the competition, and our athletes have already shown a high level of preparation, confidently moving through the grid of the tournament.
Nikita Prohovskis, who competes in the weight category up to 80 kg, has been showing excellent form and determination to win since the start of the tournament. In the first fight, he beat a boxer from Australia, winning in the first round. In the next round, Nikita met the representative of the Czech Republic, Kane Adam, and again scored a convincing victory with a unanimous decision of the judges. Prohovski now faces a gold medal final against the USA athlete on November 1 and is ready to do whatever it takes to win the world title.
Nikolajs Zamyatins (in the weight category up to 60 kg) also proved his high level of skill. In the first meeting, he defeated Sebastiano Rizzono from Germany, convincingly advancing to the quarterfinals. In the fight to enter the semi-finals, Zamyatins met the Asian champion from Thailand. Despite an intense fight and a very similar result, the judges made a split decision in favor of the opponent with a score of 3:2. Thus, Nikolai concluded his participation in the championship, winning the fifth place in his weight category.
Emmanuel Sidorenko (up to 65 kg) confidently overcame the first stage of the tournament, defeating the representative from Algeria, Lal Ilyas Akram. In the quarter-finals, he faced the champion of Ukraine, and the fight became a real test for both athletes. In the third round, Sidorenko was able to take the initiative and even take the lead, but the judges awarded the victory to his opponent. Emmanuel ended the championship in an honorable fifth place, demonstrating not only technical mastery, but also an unstoppable will to win.
The participation of Daugavpils boxers in the U19 world championship became a historic event for Latvian boxing. For the first time, our athletes were able to show their strength and will to win at such a high level. Young athletes not only raise the prestige of Daugavpils sports, but also inspire the young generation to work hard and achieve high goals.
Now the whole of Daugavpils is eagerly waiting for Nikita’s final fight and hopes for his victory.
