North Rhine-Westphalia: One dead after shooting in Cologne-Kalk – perpetrator escapes on e-scooter

In Cologne-Kalk, one person was killed by one or more shots. According to the police, the perpetrator fled.

The police say the emergency services were alerted at around 4:55 p.m. Several callers reported shots fired in front of a fitness studio on Wipperfürther Strasse.

Shortly before, a previously unknown person had fired one or more shots. At least one projectile hit the 32-year-old man, who, according to investigators, was getting into a car. He was taken to hospital. He died there a short time later from his serious injuries.

According to the police’s initial findings, the suspected perpetrator is a young, masked man wearing dark clothing. He is said to have fled on an e-scooter. A police sniffer dog searched the area surrounding the crime scene.

Police: Multiple shots fired

According to WDR information, a woman was sitting in the passenger seat of the car that the later victim wanted to get into. It is possible that it is the mother of the man who was shot. She remained unhurt.

Police are asking witnesses for information

The crime scene was cordoned off after the incident in the Kalk district at around 4:45 p.m. According to the police, the background to the crime is still unclear. A homicide squad has taken over the investigation. Witnesses who have observed something or who can provide information about the suspect are asked to come forward.
