New York, United States | Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is ready to play in Game 3 of the 2024 World Series on Monday after suffering an injury to his left shoulder late in Game 2 between his team and the New York Yankees, ESPN reported this week. Sunday quoting the franchise manager.
“My expectation is that he is going to play, which we have talked about with the rest of the coaching staff,” Dave Roberts said at a press conference. “I don’t have the test results, this is my instinct. He felt good this morning, he should arrive in the next 30 minutes and he will be at training.”
The Dodgers win the World Series 2-0 and on Monday they go to Yankee Stadium, in the Bronx, in search of a victory that will leave them one step away from winning the final.
The Japanese suffered a partial dislocation of his left shoulder in an action in the seventh inning of the duel that ended with a 4-2 victory for the Dodgers, in the second game of the best-of-seven series.
“I don’t see it being compromised, it’s the left shoulder, I don’t see how it could greatly affect his swing,” Roberts said.
Ohtani, 30, has had a start to the World Series without the brilliance of the rest of the season, with one hit and no RBIs, but he is a key piece of the Dodgers.
During the season, the player became the first Major League player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same campaign.
The Japanese, two-time American League MVP with the Los Angeles Angels before joining the Dodgers in a million-dollar deal in December, is playing in the World Series for the first time.
