Club Brugge seems to be entering the transfer market again in January, especially with a view to a new striker. With the absence of Gustaf Nilsson, Ferran Jutgla and Romeo Vermant cannot present themselves as a worthy alternative, and the name of Paul Onuachu is mentioned.
The Nigerian striker, who currently barely gets playing time at Southampton, seems an interesting option. Club Brugge wanted to sign Onuachu two years ago, but Genk refused to let him go. Despite attempts by Genk to bring him back, Onuachu opted for adventures abroad, such as Trabzonspor and Southampton. Now a return to Belgium, but at Club Brugge, could be a possibility.
Paul Onuachu ‘A different beast’ to Club Brugge?
The absence of Gustaf Nilsson bee Club Bruges was opposed KVC Westerlo again clear. Immediately Ferran Jutgla who is hopelessly out of shape, and a deserving one Roméo Vermant who is still waiting for his first goal, the dependence on the Swedish striker is enormous.
It is therefore expected that Club Brugge will look around the transfer market for a new striker in January. The name of is going around the rumor circuit Paul Onuachu already around.
Due to the need for a new striker and the dire situation the Nigerian finds himself in Southamptonthis is already a legitimate option. Onuachu, who won the Golden Boot in 2021 at KRC Genkreturned last summer after a loan Trabzonspor back to parent club Southampton.
In Turkey he had a good season with 17 goals in 25 games. His coach at Southampton, Russell Martincalled Onuachu a different beast in the preparation, but this season Onuachu currently barely comes off the bench at Southampton.
And so a suitable solution would be sought in the coming transfer period. So who knows, to Club Brugge.
Club already wanted Onuachu two years ago: “I submitted my head”
Club Brugge also showed interest in it two years ago Paul Onuachuwhen he was still at KRC Genk played. “Yes, they were very interested,” the Nigerian claimed in an extensive interview with The Morning. “But why would I leave Genk for Bruges? As far as I’m concerned, that’s a step sideways. You don’t do that.”
The Latest News reported that Club Brugge wanted to pay more than 10 million euros for Onuachu, an offer that Genk immediately rejected. The Limburgers were absolutely not interested in letting him leave for Club Brugge.
“The board here was also clear: ‘We are not going to let our Golden Shoe go to a competitor.’ Makes perfect sense to me,” Onuachu added.
It confirmed that Genk absolutely did not want him to leave for Club Brugge Dimitri de Condé in June The Latest News. “Paul himself said: ‘I am interested and would possibly like to go to Club Brugge.’ That’s where I put my head. In January he still left (to Southampton, ed.).”
Genk tried to bring Onuachu back several times
KRC Genk tried since Paul Onuachu‘s departure to bring him back to Limburg several times. In January, Racing made an attempt to hire him and the Nigerian was even said to have been in Limburg at the time.
However, no agreement was reached and Southampton then loaned him out Trabzonspor. Onuachu was also a possible option last summer Dimitri de Condé.
“I have been in contact with Paul several times,” said the Sports CEO Tech Talk on the club’s official channel. “Those were good conversations, but I also had them with him last year,” said Condé.
“In it he said that Genk is and will remain his home for him and that he will come back home one day. But he wants to stay abroad at the moment. We were therefore not able to go straight for a transfer.”
