Open city championships from October 25th to 27th

With more than 10,000 participants in recent years, a popular sports event has long been established in the East Westphalian region and once again offers a wide range of very different sports.

The event is supported by the energy supplier Technical Works Osning (TWO), Volksbank Halle/Westfalen and Provinzial Versicherung Halle. The OWL Sport & Event is responsible for the implementation, while the Halle Sportpark and the Teutoburger Wald Golf Club serve as venues. A big award ceremony for all participants will take place on October 27th from 4 p.m. in the Halle Sports Park. Each participant receives a T-shirt. The winners are awarded trophies.

This year, athletes can prove themselves in the seven disciplines of tennis, table tennis, squash, badminton, pickleball, golf and speed chess. Swimming is not on offer this time. Pickleball, a mixture of tennis and badminton, is celebrating its premiere in the sports park. “We would also like to offer the participants a new sport,” explains Monika Werkis, head of the Halle Sports Park. She is organizing the event together with Christian Anwey and Timo Klack from the city of Halle.

Last year, 500 athletes took part in the city championships. A similar number is expected again. The Open Hall City Championships are not just a platform for sporting competitions, but are primarily intended to encourage people to become active and move together. At the same time, the multi-day event is an excellent opportunity to get to know the diverse offerings at the Halle Sports Park, says Monika Werkis.
