Operation Praetorian: FC Porto Member Sandra Madureira Faces Expulsion Amid Controversy

Sandra Madureira, wife of Fernando Madureira, former leader of the Super Dragões fans, received a note of guilt issued by the Fiscal and Disciplinary Board of FC Porto, which could result in her expulsion as a member of the club. The measure follows investigations by Operation Praetorian, which had as its starting point the violent incidents that occurred at the General Assembly on November 13th. This session was marked by moments of great tension and disorder, which led the authorities to launch large-scale legal action.

FC Porto, after analyzing the images and reports from that night of violence, decided to proceed with this disciplinary measure, says Jornal de Notícias. According to information gathered, Sandra Madureira was one of several people involved who received a formal notification, and now has ten days to respond to the note of guilt issued by the club. This deadline will be decisive in determining whether the expulsion will be carried out or whether there will be a successful defense by Sandra Madureira.

Operation Praetorian, which led to the arrest of Fernando Madureira, Sandra’s husband and former leader of the Super Dragões, targeted several FC Porto partners and is related to the violent incidents that occurred during the November General Assembly. The police investigation, which involved the analysis of videos and other evidence, led to the arrest of Madureira and the notification of others involved, many of whom could also face expulsion from the club.

Fernando Madureira, who has been in pre-trial detention for several months, was one of the central figures in this process. His arrest was justified by magistrate Filipa Azevedo, who decided to maintain the former cheerleader’s arrest, arguing that the reasons for his arrest remain valid. The recently elected Fiscal and Disciplinary Council carefully evaluated the material collected by the authorities and concluded that there were reasons to proceed with the new guilty notes.

The case against Fernando Madureira and Sandra Madureira is not limited to the disciplinary sphere of FC Porto, but is also part of a broader case, under judicial investigation. The investigation phase of the case is scheduled for October 28th, next Monday, when both will be heard by judge Filipa Azevedo. The hearing had initially been scheduled for an earlier date, but ended up being postponed due to the strike by Judiciary employees. In the same vein, three other defendants, namely Fernando Saul, Carlos ‘Jamaica’ and José Pereira, are scheduled to be heard this Friday.

During this phase, Fernando Madureira’s defense tried to raise an incident of suspicion against judge Filipa Azevedo, claiming that the fact of having revalidated the preventive detention of the former leader of the Super Dragões could put her impartiality at risk. However, the judge rejected this request, ensuring that the decision to maintain preventive detention does not prevent her from conducting the process in the investigation phase.
