Östersunds FK Secures Future by Settling Tax Debt: A New Chapter for the Club

Superettan club Östersunds FK has been in a financial crisis for some time, and needed to pay three million kroner to the Tax Agency by Monday evening at the latest.

At the last moment, the club’s chairman Anders Cederberg announced that ÖFK had paid in the money.

– Just under an hour ago, we did it. We have also received so much money that we have secured the operation for the whole of this year, he says at a press conference on Monday evening.

For several seasons, Östersunds FK has struggled with weak finances. A tax debt of three million kroner – which is based on the pandemic – needed to be paid by Monday at the latest.

According to the chairman of the club’s incorporated part, Anders Cederberg, ÖFK managed to collect close to SEK 3.9 million on Monday. He has previously said that bankruptcy or reconstruction would have awaited if the club had not managed to settle the debt in time.

With Monday’s addition, the business is said to be secured both for the season and the rest of the year. Anders Cederberg does not want to go into who contributed the money.

– There are individuals and companies who not only have a big red-black heart but also a big wallet, who have collectively helped make this possible, he says.

Anders Cederberg has previously spoken P4 Jamtland that the club’s weak finances are due, among other things, to smaller audiences and smaller sponsor sales than expected.
