Oviedo continues to welcome the winners of the 2024 Princess of Asturias Awards. The last to arrive have been those responsible for this year’s Scientific and Technical Research Award. The bagpipes have sounded next to the Hotel de la reconquista to welcome the Canadian endocrinologist, Daniel J. Drucker, and the American-Macedonian biochemist, Svetlana Mojsov. Their research and study on the treatment of obesity has led them to obtain this award.
This Monday, the writer Michael Ignatieff also set foot on Asturian soil to collect the Social Sciences Prize. As part of his social work, Ignatieff will have a meeting with young people this Tuesday. On the other hand, the president of Magnum Photos, Cristina de Middel, will receive the Concord Prize. To celebrate, the agency has created the exhibition Spain x Magnumwhere they collect more than 200 pieces made by photographers on Spanish soil.
Activities parallel to the awards ceremonies are already underway, such as badminton workshops, in honor of another of the winners, the athlete Carolina Marín or the meeting with the 2015 Literature Prize, the Cuban writer, Leonardo Padura. This Tuesday, one of the most awarded, the 2024 Arts Prize, Joan Manuel Serrat, is expected to arrive.
It will be the first time that Princess Leonor gives the closing speech, which was reserved for her father in previous editions. We will have to wait until this Friday to see what happens at the Campoamor Theater.
