Pallacanestro Trieste, basketball meets sustainability with the Ecodunk project

The Trieste Basketball takes to the court not only for basketball, but also for‘environment. The project Ecodunk – Slamming for Sustainabilitylaunched in collaboration with theregional department for environmental protectionis the fulcrum of the sustainable transformation of the sports club. This commitment is reflected in a series of educational initiatives that involve both fans and young people in the area, promoting values ​​such as recycling and sustainability.

A project dedicated to sustainability

The project “Ecodunk” is part of the broader program “Trieste Basketball Goes Green”which aims to make the team’s structures and activities sustainable. Councilor Fabio Scoccimarroduring the presentation of the initiative, underlined how the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region is strongly committed to supporting sport, both through the construction of new infrastructures and with direct support to professional clubs. Trieste Basketballwith its green project, presents itself not only as sporting excellence, but also as an example of commitment to sustainability.

“One Planet Only Game”, raising awareness through sport

One of the most significant moments of the project was the match against Reggiana, called “One Planet Only Game”during which sustainability was the protagonist. Pallacanestro Trieste fans received a bag made from ecological materials, containing an information leaflet on correct waste management. Thanks to the collaboration of Arpa FVG and Eco FVGscoreboards and baskets were installed above the recycling bins, facilitating the correct disposal of waste during the event.

Involving young people in environmental education

A fundamental aspect of the project concerns environmental education. Various activities aimed at young people were organised, with the participation of ITS Ecology e One Ocean Foundation. During the awareness days, the children had the opportunity to visit waste disposal plants, create artistic objects with recycled materials and participate in creative workshops. In one of these meetings, held during the Barcolana, the children created artistic display boards to promote separate waste collection.

The success of the initiative is the result of the synergy between various local actors. Edilmaster | The Building School of Trieste he led creative workshops in which waste collected on the shores of Trieste was transformed into small jewels. The students, together with the players of Pallacanestro Trieste, actively engaged in waste collection, a symbolic gesture that made the commitment to sustainability concrete.

A green future for Trieste

The ambition of Pallacanestro Trieste is clear: to become an example not only of sporting excellence, but also of environmental responsibility. The project “Trieste Basketball Goes Green” represents an important step towards a transformation that involves not only the team, but the entire community.
