Paralympic medalist Rémy Boullé appeals conviction for manslaughter

The case dates back to December 27, 2023, well before the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and Rémy Boullé’s bronze medal in para-canoeing. That evening, the 36-year-old man was involved in a road accident costing the life of a 17-year-old young man, on a scooter, on the roads of Sables-d’Olonne (Vendée), as explained the editorial staff of Les Sables.

On September 19, 2024, two weeks after the end of the Paralympic Games, Rémy Boullé was called to the bar of the Vendée criminal court, accused of manslaughter.

On October 24, he was found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison, as well as damages of 30,000 euros for each of the victim’s parents and 14,000 euros for each brother and sister. The court also added a six-month suspension of Rémy Boullé’s driving license. But the Paralympic medalist told La République du Center on October 26 that he had appealed the conviction. He therefore remains presumed innocent pending a new trial.

According to the expert opinion, cited during the judgment, the speed of the vehicle, an SUV, driven by Rémy Boullé, did not exceed the authorized limit (50 km/h) but this was judged to be unsuitable for the traffic conditions due to rain.
