Three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Gambrinus Czech Darts Open in Prague. Even his famous average of over 112 points on three darts was not enough to advance over Luke Littler. However, he enjoyed the weekend in the capital of the Czech Republic immensely, which he spoke about for TN.cz.
If Michael van Gerwen really likes a foreign city, it’s Prague. He has already participated in European Tour tournaments here several times and was also present at the exhibition in 2018, which he even won. One of the best archers in history did not miss this opportunity either this time.
Together with his charming wife Daphne, they took a beautiful walk through the streets of Prague before the tournament and published photos from the Old Town Square on social networks. It should be noted that the Dutchman goes to darts tournaments all over the world, but he only posted a purely touristic photo on Instagram from a few places, which include, for example, Ibiza, Las Vegas and Prague.
”I have been here several times with my wife. It’s a magical city. The people here are great and very nice. Many tourists go here. I probably need a guide here, but my wife and I mainly want to enjoy it here and that’s what we’re doing,Michael van Gerwen told Nova TV over the weekend.
At the tournament, he coped with the Pole Ratajský and the Scot Soutar, but was not enough for the super talented youngster Luke Littler. It didn’t matter to him that his three-dart average climbed over 112 points. It can be assumed, however, that even this bitter defeat will not deter him from making a trip to the mother of cities on the first weekend of September next year, when the European Tour tournament will again take place in Prague.
This is how Michael van Gerwen closed in nine darts at last year’s Players Championship final:
