The Nigerian Badminton Federation FENIBAD held its elective general assembly on Saturday October 26, 2024. This involved renewing the executive office of this young federation after a 5-year mandate. The opening ceremony of this statutory body was chaired by the representative of the Ministry of Youth, Arts, Culture and Sports, Mr. Mahamane Salissou Ousmane, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Olympic and Sports Committee of Niger (COSNI) Mr. Youssouf Badr Zody, the President of the Niger Paralympic Committee as well as the representative of the embassy of the People’s Republic of China, the first partner of FENIBAD.
The representative of the Ministry of Youth, Arts, Culture and Sports asked the participants to strictly respect the texts during this EGM so that the results are accepted by all. The outgoing president of the office, Mr. Abdoulaye Hassane Issoufou, addressed the supervisory authority of sports federations by conveying the gratitude of the members of the executive office for the support given to FENIBAD which is trying as best it can to make a place Badminton on the chessboard of disciplines on which we can count to raise the torch of Niger high. He also wanted to thank the officials of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Niger and the Paralympic Committee, the officials or representatives of the partner institutions as well as all these distinguished guests who kindly agreed to enhance, through their presence, the brilliance of the launching ceremony of the elective general assembly of the federation he leads. The Nigerien badminton federation has not yet celebrated its tenth anniversary, but today it is the pride of Niger and ranks among the federations which not only hold their meetings regularly, but also and above all organize promotional activities. of his sport across the country. The president indicated that FENIBAD has its branches or leagues in the eight (8) regions of the country. For this General Assembly, all the delegates responded to actively participate in the renewal of the executive office. In addition, it is affiliated with COSNI at the national level and with international Badminton bodies. Mr. Abdoulaye Hassane Issoufou proudly underlined that FENIBAD therefore regularly participates in General Assemblies, international activities as well as sub-regional, regional and international competitions. Nigerian badminton athletes and technicians also participate in training sessions organized around the world. All this demonstrates, if necessary, the vitality of this young federation which is also full of young talents who only ask to be supported to be the ambassadors of Niger during international meetings. Being an indoor sport par excellence, Badminton needs more infrastructure and equipment to prosper. The president of the federation underlined this while welcoming the efforts made by the outgoing executive office to keep this federation afloat and organize activities regularly despite the difficulties. And for good reason, he indicated that FENIBAD has, to its credit, the training of trainers on Badminton techniques in all eight (8) regions as part of the “Shuttle Time” program, the certification of Six (6) Nigerien referees by the African Badminton Confederation, the organization of the School Championships every year for 4 years, the annual organization of the National Badminton Championships and the China-Niger Friendship Cup. In addition, Niger has participated, through FENIBAD, in numerous international competitions. The COSNI representative welcomed the commitment of the FENIBAD office and promised that COSNI will always be at its side. At the end of a day of work devoted exclusively to the presentation of the results and the election of the new executive office which will lead the destiny of FENIBAD for the next five years, Mr. Abdoulaye Hassane Issoufou and the team that he presented were acclaimed by delegates from the eight regions. They serve again for a five-year term.
