Prisca Awiti, the Olympic runner-up, says she will grow more if she responds better to pressure

Mexico, Oct 30 (EFE).- Mexican Prisca Awiti, Olympic judo runner-up, said this Wednesday that to improve herself she must better handle moments of pressure in the most important fights.

«Technically I am at a good level. In the Olympic Games the pressure came to me in the final and I have to work on how to handle that in the big fights,” explained Awiti when responding to a question from Efe at a tribute at the Mexican Olympic Committee.

Born in London to a Kenyan father and Mexican mother, Awiti decided to compete for Mexico and gave the big blow of her career in Paris 2024 by winning the silver medal in the 63 kilograms.

The fighter accepted that she is now the face of judo in Mexico, but warned that there is a lot of talent among her teammates and with work they hope to demonstrate it at the 1928 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

«This week I return to training; Towards the next Olympic Games I will go year by year. Los Angeles will be the big goal but there will be important preliminary steps first,” he said.

Herbalife, one of the sponsors of the Olympic Committee, today presented recognition to the medalists in Paris 2024; The 28-year-old judoka received 500,000 Mexican pesos, about $25,000, the same amount given to the other two silver medalists, the boxer Marco Verde and the jumper Osmar Olvera.

«A new Olympic cycle is coming; Los Angeles 1928 awaits us and we will have better results,” predicted Olvera, who received an additional 250,000 pesos (about $12,500) for his bronze medal in synchronized diving on the springboard, along with Juan Celaya, recognized with the same amount of money.

In absence, the archery team, bronze medalist in the women’s national competition, was also awarded.

The coaches also received financial prizes, which was highlighted by the president of the COM, María José Alcalá, who presided over the awards ceremony.
