Taufik Hidayat was born in Bandung, 10 August 1981. He is the son of Aris Haris and Enok Dartilah. In 2006, he married Ami Gumelar, daughter of the former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Agum Gumelar. From their marriage, Taufik and Ami were blessed with 2 children, namely Natarina Alika Hidayat and Nayottama Prawira Hidayat.
Taufik Hidayat started his badminton career when he joined the Sangkuriang Graha Sarana (SGS) club in his hometown. He has shown achievements when participating in junior championships and becoming a world badminton player. He decided to hang up his racket in 2013 when he was 32 years old.

Taufik Hidayat succeeded in becoming a legendary badminton player at a young age. He made many achievements in various world competitions representing Indonesia. In his career as a men’s singles badminton player, he managed to achieve achievements such as winning the 2004 Athens Olympics, he was also successful at various world championships, the Yiyang World Cup, Asian Games, SEA Games, and many more. A year after he won the Olympics, Taufik won the world number 1 title in 2005.
He also brought many achievements in the men’s team, starting from the Sudirman Cup, Asian Championships, Thomas Cup, and others. He has also made achievements since 1997 at the Asian Junior Championships.

According to various sources, after hanging up his racket in 2013, Taufik Hidayat served as Deputy Chair of the 2016-2017 Gold Indonesia Program Implementation Unit (Satlak Prima). After that, in 2017-2018 he worked as special staff at the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora).
In 2018, he became a member of the Democratic Party which began his career in politics. In 2024, he will run as a Legislative Candidate for the West Java II electoral district. Unfortunately, he failed to become a people’s representative. In 2024, he will be appointed as deputy minister of youth and sports in the Prabowo-Gibran cabinet.
