PSV Supporters Denied Travel to Paris Saint-Germain: Understanding the Financial Impact

PSV supporters are not welcome at the Champions League away match against Paris Saint-Germain next Tuesday, October 22. PSV fans are also not allowed to travel to Paris. The French authorities decided this because of previous disturbances with the Eindhoven supporters.

The French authorities are wary of PSV supporters, partly due to riots last October 24 around and during the Champions League match against RC Lens. 24 supporters were injured. PSV was fined 25,000 euros.

PSV indicates that it has contested the decision and at the same time took the initiative to take additional measures to prevent possible problems. “But to the great disappointment of the club, neither of them delivered the desired result,” PSV writes on the club website.

Lots of costs
The news that no PSV supporters will be admitted is late, because the third match of the group stage is already scheduled for next week. The club stated on its website that it regrets the decision. “And also the timing. All preparations had already been made and many costs were incurred. Moreover, the selection of Peter Bosz counted on the support of the loyal supporters.”

The 2,000 supporters who purchased a ticket will receive a full refund. Any other costs will not be reimbursed.

The PSV supporters’ association also says it is ‘extremely surprised’ by the choice of the French authorities. “In the meantime,” it says on its website, “we have already contacted a lawyer to investigate the possibilities of legal proceedings against the Parisian prefecture. We have also informed the European Supporters’ Association and asked for support. We hope something more will be done.” against this ridiculous decision!”
